“Good things come to those who wait”
And wait we shall.
After two counter offers yesterday, the selling realtor advised her client that he should sleep on it, to take the emotion out of selling a house, and to really take into consideration our offer.
We came into proceedings with an extreme low-ball. He didn’t take it well and nearly rejected our offer altogether, but came back at 5,000 below list. We came up 20,000 and he came down another 5,000. He wasn’t interested in playing ball with us at all. Part of that is due to being poorly advised by a realtor who ‘bought’ the listing by promising a high sale price. Unfortunately for them, we’ve done our homework and know that compared to the market, he is 40,000 higher than anything remotely comparable and we won’t pay more for a house because of their perceived value.
So, we wait. Still hopeful that we can come to an agreement on purchase price.
We wait, while the clock ticks quietly in the background. But it’s loud enough to remind us that we have 22 days before we have to move.
I can say with certainty that it is 100% harder to pack up everything when you don’t know where you’ll end up living in a matter of 22 days. It’s almost as though we’ve decided that if we don’t pack, we don’t have to leave. Unfortunately, house or no house, we’re outta here. Soon. And we need to get our butts in gear. Not a single box has been packed. Hand slap on us. Therefore, I have decided to set goals for packing. Today I will pack up the office, entirely. All the books, picture frames, papers, etc. will be packed up so that the office can be our box storage space as the rest of the house gets packed up.
You see, our garage is pretty plumb full due to the major decluttering, pre-packing that we did before we listed our house. Granted, Lee has done a phenomenal job keeping it manageable and organized while maintaining accessibility in case we run into a “shoot, that shouldn’t have been packed yet” kind of emergency. Really though, when does that ever really happen !? Typically, out of sight, out of mind. I think we will be doing some extensive purging when we move…
Please keep your fingers crossed for us today. We are praying for a major change of heart on the sellers’ part – that he would have taken this time to really contemplate why we came in significantly lower than his list price. To think about the fact that his property really wasn’t comparable to the ones his realtor was showing him. Man alive… the suspense is the worst part !
Well – on to packing ! No more procrastinating ! Ok, after I finish my oh-so-delicious strawberry spinach smoothie. Yum ! It’s actually amazing how you can’t even taste the spinach – despite the overwhelming green colour. It’s what Isaac and I have for breakfast pretty much every day. I figure now is the time to sneak green things into his regular food so that he won’t question it when he’s older. That’s my logic and I’m sticking to it !!
